Latest in 17-million selling franchise brings modern war to life
LAS VEGAS, NV (Mar. 13, 2002) - The war you might see on TV in 20 years is about to be interactive. EA announced Command & Conquer™ Generals today, a 3D real-time strategy game for the PC that will deliver the intensity and chaos of modern war. Generals will be published by EA (NASDAQ:ERTS) under the EA GAMES™ brand this winter.
Generals is the next game in the 17-million-selling Command & Conquer franchise. It's being created by EA Pacific, the developers of the wildly popular Command & Conquer Red Alert™ 2 and Command & Conquer Yuri's Revenge™.
"Generals will give gamers a Hollywood version of modern war with intense combat and spectacular special effects," said Mark Skaggs, general manager of EA Pacific and executive in charge of production for Generals. "We're creating a game of global conflict based on issues relevant to today's turbulent world. Gamers will be in command of this modern war, and they'll win that war by using weapons they see on today's battlefield, plus new weapons and vehicles fresh off the military's drawing boards."
The armies that will clash in Generals are the super powers of United States and China, and a massive underground organization, the Global Liberation Army, bent on drowning the world in anarchy and terror. Each of the three sides represents a distinct geo-political viewpoint and will fight the war with vastly different tactics and weaponry.
To make the experience of modern war as immersive as possible, EA Pacific is using a proprietary st
ctivity. Because of Sage, Generals' battlefields will include fully modeled urban cityscapes, rugged deserts, vast forests and frozen wastelands. Amazing special effects will allow players to crush cars with hulking tanks, blow out the windows of skyscrapers, or lace the skies with smoke from dueling fighter planes.
Generals will include a full single-player campaign along with a full multiplayer component played over a LAN or the Internet. Generals will also feature:
· More than 80 all-new units,
buildings and upgrades such as the top-secret Aurora Strike Fighters,
devastating Daisy Cutters, militant Angry Mobs, and skilled Hackers.
· Innovative gameplay with new features such as thrilling air-to-air combat,
customizable forces, enhanced v
ate-of-the-art 3D engine, code-named
"Sage," which delivers unprecedented detail and interaeterancy, and intense urban combat.
· An improved interface that will give gamers more control over the battlefield
than ever before.
· A full map editor for players to build customized war scenarios.
· Spectacular cinematics that will immerse players in the storyline.
